Open Reduction and Rigid Internal Fixation of Facial Bone Fractures

Abstract
Face is likely to be injuried by trauma. With the ever-increasing traffic accidents and violence in present-day society. Therefore, multiple facial bone fractures are encountered more easily in the clinic. It is important to perform more accurate
reduction of fracture displacements because of aesthetical and functional problems. The goal of modern fracture management is directed toward the near-total or total initial reconstruction of the injuried bone.
Miniplates (or microplates) and screws have high strength yet easily and precisely shaped to bone contours, excellent biocompatiblity. They are chemically inert and non-corrosive. Rigid internal fixation has proved to be a convenient and
effective
method in the treatment of various facial bone fractures.
We report eleven patients with facial bone fractures treated with rigid internal fixation devices. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:7, 1995)
